Windows 10: Windows 10 2004 + DirectX 12 = Black screens when minimizing games.

Hi!

I just updated my Windows to the 2004 version. After finishing the update i started World of Warcraft and my screen immediately went black for 2-3 seconds (like when you start an old fullscreen game). Every time i try to minimize the game either by pressing the windows key or alt + tab the screen goes black for 2-3 seconds.

On the previous Windows version 1909 starting and minimizing the game was instant and i never experienced black screens when alt + tab.

I tried to both enable and disable the “fullscreen optimization” in Windows, without any luck.

I have managed to track down the problem to DirectX 12. When i change the WoW-client to DirectX 11 it works flawless again. While its a temporary fix, i would love to be able to use DirectX 12 again, like i could on 1909

Is this a known issue? Im not sure if this is a problem on Blizzard or Microsofts end? I assume its Microsoft since it was the 2004 update that brought along the problem.

Ive seen people with similar problems (https://redd.it/hfqbfh), and their fix was to roll back the 2004 update, something i would prefer not to do.

DirectX 12 Ultimate

Hi Glen,

This did nothing to solve the problem, I have a EVGA RTX 2070 XC ULTRA GAMING and windows 10 pro ver. 2004, Os build 19041.264 and I do not have DirectX 12 Ultimate even though my video card support DirectX
12 Ultimate. Is there some way to install DirectX 12 Ultimate on windows 10 pro ver. 2004 machine?

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

  What happens when you try to play the games with the DirectX 12? Do you get any error message/code? If yes, then provide us the complete error message/code.
  

If you are unable to play games which doesn't support DirectX 12 then, you can manually download the supportable DirectX for the games.

I suggest you to refer to the below article on How to install the latest version of DirectX.

Some games comes with the supported DirectX application embedded within the game's application, so that you can install it manually from the game.

You can also try to open the games in the compatibility mode.

  Right-click on the setup file of the game and click on ‘properties’.

  Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed.

Screen tearings in DirectX 12 games.

I have Rise Of Tomb Raider on my PC, everything worked fine, but recently I got those screen tearings in the game, I tried to reinstall and downgrade video drivers, it didn't help I think it might be the last windows 10 update that coused the problem
but not sure. In window mode game works fine, DirectX 11 option on works fine too. Others games don't have this issue. Checked the Quantum Break, there are also screen tearings and only works fine in window mode, it seems like there's problem with DirectX
12 . Anyone know how to solve this problem?

*** also tried to turn on V-Sync, in the games, and in Nvidia control panel, it did't help
