  1. Windows 10 2004 LocalSystemNetworkRestricted Device Association Service high memory use

The day after the Windows 10 2004 update was applied on my Dell G5 5587 laptop with all drivers and bios up to date this service started to consume all available RAM reaching in some cases 10GB of 16GB and eventually and several times per day caused the laptop to freeze and become non functional. The only option was hard reset via the power button.
After two days of this I had no choice but to revert back to Windows 10 1909.

I've noticed that the same service there similarly from time to time use high memory but nothing as extreme as update 2004 and would release the memory and return to a more normal state of 150MB.

Is this a Windows 10 2004 bug or is this something else?

If a bug how do we press a button to shock a developer into action within that team to fix it?
If something else what should I be looking for?

    :)

  2. System and compressed memory high disk usage

    Hi Robert,

As you are facing issues with high system and compressed memory on your device we will help you with this issue.

Provide us additional information to assist you better with this issue:

    • What is the make and model of your device?
    • What is the complete error message with respect to the memory when you are trying to access games?

This issue might have occurred due to applications or services running at the startup on the computer. Bad sectors on the hard drive or outdated and incompatible drivers might also cause such issues.

I suggest you to refer to the below post check if your issue matches with the same.

If so, I recommend you to try the troubleshooting steps suggested by Amarjeet Paul

  3. PicMan Win User
Service Host: Local System Constantly using CPU and has High Memory Usage

    Thanks for the reply Sangeeta,

The problem remains - 64% of my memory is taken up along with 100% (!) of disk activity, even

    when no applications are running.

I am running Windows 10 Pro on a Surface Pro 3 with 8GB of memory and an i5 processor,

on the latest version of Windows 10 (all updates installed). The build number is 10240.

You suggested several methods to try in order to fix the problem. My results follow.

    Method 1:

Your step 1 suggestion of pressing the Windows key + W did not work. My PC does not respond to that.

However, you later on suggest running the "Windows Update troubleshooter".

I've done this - many, many times, as my prior postings show.

Each time I run it, it says it found a configuration problem and fixed it.

So, it lies and never fixed it, or, something in the system causes the problem to immediately return.

    Method 2:

I brought up the list of system services, and here is what I found...

    BITS: I can't find it

    Cryptographic: Running

MSI Installer: I can't find it

Windows Update Services: The only similar service was "Windows Update", and it was Running.

I'm guessing that your suggestion regarding the list of running services is not quite correct.

Instead, I brought up the Task Manager and clicked on the Services tab.

For some reason, it seems to have a more complete list of services.

    Here's what I found...

    BITS: Running

    Cryptographic: Running (but named CryptSvc)

MSI Installer: I can't find it

Windows Update Services: I can't find it.

Instead of "MSI Installer", do you mean the "Windows Installer", named "msiserver"?

If so, its status is Stopped.

Instead of "Windows Update Services", do you mean "Windows Update", named "wuauserv"?

If so, its status is Stopped.

I think you are implying that these two stopped services should be running, so I started each one.

    But it made no difference.

I next ran the Windows Update troubleshooter. Once again it said it found and fixed a problem,

    but the basic problem remains.

    Method 3:

Your Clean Boot URL does not cover Windows 10. Maybe you should use the URL:

How to perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

I followed the Windows 10 instructions for performing a clean boot. Upon startup, I

brought up the Task Manager. But the high CPU/high memory/high disk problem remains.

No new updates were installed, and the system says my PC is up to date.

I see from the Startup tab of Task Manager, that all of my user applications are disabled.

Since the basic problem remains, I have to conclude that none of my user applications are

causing the problem, and that this is a basic system problem. Specifically, that there is

a system problem with Windows Process "Service Host: Local Service (No Network)". I suspect a

recent Microsoft update caused this problem.

Could it be anything other than that?

  4. Windows 10 2004 LocalSystemNetworkRestricted Device Association Service high memory use

    Hardware Reserved Memory 5.5GB

If you feel comfortable doing your own system tweaking I would suggest this advice provided on this website: Top 10 Ways to Fix High RAM/CPU Memory Usage after Windows 10 Update | Drive The Life Do perform steps 1(return this registry "VALUE DATA") entry back to 0 after restart)thru 10, exclude step 2, as that is a download that you do not need at this time. After all that
go to trusted site by Black Viper for advice on your win 10 operating system Services configuration for normal ops and set your services according to Mister Vipers suggestions. His website is here: Black Vipers Windows 10 Service Configurations » Black Viper | www.blackviper.com Some of these suggestions if not down properly could render your operating system un-usable, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. However, I have used the advice given here and personally have not caused any problems to my own system and in fact this advice has significantly improved performance and reduced the load on memory to a negligible amount . Best of Luck.

I remember when 256Mb was a lot of ram and you could upgrade to 512 for about 150 bucks (maybe more). Just sayin.
