    Windows 10, 2004 update fails on appraiser.dll with error code 0xC0000005


    I tried to install Windows 2004, and I get the error code 0xC0000005. Looking at the logs from the installation in the Panther directory, I see the following:

    Exception code 0xC0000005: ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at 0x00007FFEA182D8C1 in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\appraiser.dll


    I was able to read the dump file for this error, and I see the check failing on this step:

    NULL_POINTER_READ_c0000005_appraiser.dll!BiSpacesUpdatePhysicalDevicePath


    Any help would be appreciated

    I used the media creation tool and reloaded windows then tried to update to 2004 and got the same error 0xc0000005. Update history has error 0x802422016

    I had this error code 0xc0000005 as well using Windows Update in system settings. Running setup.exe from an ISO would not even run. I would also get a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bluescreen when trying to boot from BIOS to the ISO.

    I was updating from 1903 to 2004. I solved this by updating to 1909 first, then updating to 2004.
