Windows 10: Windows 10 20h2 update kills screen saver

I have two PC's, each running Windows 10 20H2. Prior to this update, my screen saver worked on both computers. It fails to work on either computer now they are both running the supposedly latest and greatest fully patched Windows 10 Pro. The lock screen also does not turn on and the computers never power down despite setting them to idle after x minutes. The power troubleshooter identifies the only issue being the screen saver is on. Resetting power settings does nothing.


Unplugging everything does not enable the screen saver or lock screen. Safe mode does not enable the screen saver or lock screen. scannow and other file checkers show no issues. The computer are separate builds using different hardware.


When I restore Windows 10 from an earlier backup disk image to a previous version of Windows 10, the screen saver works. I suspect if I fired up a VM and updated to 20H2 the screen saver would be borked there too.


Therefore, the root cause of the screen saver issue must be the 20H2 update.


The screen saver never coming on is a security issue and also a pain in the user experience buttocks.


So, what's the solution Microsoft? I cannot be the only end user with this issue.

On Windows 7 the screen saver didn't go to a black screen but it showed the desktop. Not getting that with Windows 10. Whats the deal? Have GTX750Ti

Let us know what happens exactly when you try to set the screen-saver or put the computer to sleep.

I would suggest you to review he settings and check. Here is the steps:

To change Screen Saver:

• Press Windows/Start key.
• Type Screen Saver and click on Change Screen Saver.
• Select the screensaver from the drop down menu and click on Apply.
• Click on OK.

To put the computer in sleep:

• Press Windows/Start key.
• Type Power and click on Power Options.
• Select Change when the computer sleeps in the left panel.

Here is what I want: Same access / functionality as in Win 8.1. That is:

• Right-click empty desktop space.
• Select "Personalize"
• Get a window with the same screen saver options (turn on / off, select a "screen saver"...) that in Windows 10, Microsoft is forcing me to access through Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Personalization ->Change Screen Saver.

The Windows 8.1 two-step process was a much more user-friendly "experience" than is the Windows 10 four-step process.
