Windows 10 32bit slower on SSD than Windows 7

Have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 a few times already and keep going back to Win 7 'cause it system slows down (start up and shutdown) after second reboot on Win 10.

It takes about 30 seconds to load on Win with all kinds of installed programs.
Win 10 takes at least twice the amount and i have barely loaded anything yet. *cry

    :)

This taking much copying files in Windows 10 update

Thanks for the reply. There goes my theory. I have an SSD that it would take about 7 days to install to given the speed it runs, and yet it installed to an old HDD in less than 2 hours. The HDD writes 10 times slower than the SSD.

  3. Change to Windows 10 64bit from 32bit

I have updated my Windows 7 home 32bit to Windows 10.

If I were to do a clean install to a new ssd drive of the 64bit version of Windows 10 would I have any issues with activation? or will it only activate a 32bit version?

    Thanks.

That's very slow for an SSD. My W10 laptop loads in 15s and my W8.1 desktop in 20s.

I would use Autoruns to check what is loading and disable those items you don't need - you can obtain Autoruns from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/.../bb963902.aspx

I once had a slow Windows start up due to having an external HDD connected which had an active partition. This seemed to confuse the boot process resulting in a slows start up. I would check the partition status of all connected drives and ensure only the boot drive is marked active - on my PC this is the EFI System Partition. You can use a tool like Minitool Partition Wizard to check this from http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-...n-manager.html

Also along the same path as Steve C make sure the bios is set to boot from the SSD first and isn't going to other devices first trying to boot before it gets to the SSD further down the list only after the other devices have failed.

I have a laptop with a usb device to backup data which has no impact on Win 7 boot times.
Could it have an impact on Win 10?
Will study your submitted feedback before attempting to go back to Win 10 again.

Okay... have run Autoruns - how do i know which ones aren't "essential" - the ones highlighted in pink?
Have also tried tips from these suggestions:
Fix: Slow Boot Time in Windows 10 on SSD
Can't get the "high performance" to stick in power management.
Basically, it takes a minute to get into gear with Win 10 whereas Win 7 took 30 seconds (with all programs fully loaded on the later too!).

    Update.

Just double-checked things with 360 Total Security.

Avira and Bitdefender were off so i enabled and scanned again.

It found something so i pushed it further.

Installed Adw and it found some stuff too.

    Installed Hitman Pro, dido.

So... in short, operating system is up and running full throttle (approx. 30 sec. to boot)!

My apologies for not going in deeper with initial malware testing prior to posting (could not guess that on initial installation, things would go so wrong - not sure but think it has something to do with some Google Chrome extensions).

A huge thanks for writing in to help guys! *Smile

I have seen two computers runs faster when Windows 10 build 1511, was installed on a formatted harddrive.

Putting Windows 10 over Windows 7 is maybe like appling a big software patch... *Confused It does give a person the chance to see how Windows 10 looks and operates.

You probably got it right sam2fish.
After a few reboots, things got worse for me (after marking "solved" here).
At a min. and a half for boot, on Win 10 i decided to revert to Win 7 again.
Also, have tried twice to boot Win 10 via two separately downloaded and burned .isos and it comes up every time with an error message at boot time. Now, I've made hundreds of .isos in the past - so, nope, Win 10 is out of the question now (at least over Win 7).
