During the installation .. I occur the problem STYLE harddisk 64bit needed the GPT style .. I'm converted from MBR to GPT .. and successful installation .... and everything is nice .. but and strange event .. when I turn off the Laptop .. THE DISPLAY ONLY OFF .. THE LED AND FAN WORKING ALSO DRIVER (CD-ROM) AND HARDDISK .... when I formatting again to 32bit .. it's working 100% !!!!

I'm testing for my CPU if allow 64bit for INTEL site ..it's really allowed !! Please help me .. I'm try and have a 20 days to solved it .. PLEASE

Hi, you only need a 64bit OS when you have more than 4Gb RAM - or if you plan to add more RAM of course.

Perhaps your thinking about 2.89Gb comes from part of your RAM being shared with a video card, or used by integrated graphics.

    For example see

If you only have 4 GB of memory, installing 64 bit will not change a thing, the little bit of memory you can`t use is already dedicated to your video card.

Post a shot of Resource Monitor showing the memory tab.

    Example:

Have you tried using the installation media to not only format your drive, but also to delete all partitions taking the drive down to unallocated space ?

Then try a clean install of the x64 version onto the unallocated space.

Could be you have some problem with 64 bit drivers rather than 32?

Does your laptop manufacturer include yours in the list of those approved for Win 10? If not, there's no guarantee it will work, and it's then up to you to sort that out or not.

I think @dalchina is probably correct in that this is a driver issue, something hanging somewhere. I have an old Acer laptop that is 64 bit capable but it will not install W10 x64 at all. x86 is OK.

Have you tried just letting Windows install default drivers (so you don't install anything) and see if that changes anything ?

And fwiw, I'm actually currently running the x86 version on my Dell with 4Gb RAM and it's all good *Smile Can't really say I notice any difference between the x64 vs x86 for my use, other than the fact that the OS is significantly smaller in space requirements, backups are consequently smaller and quicker, and shutdown is blisteringly fast at around 3 seconds. Startup in under 11 seconds.

If the x86 version runs OK for you then I would use it and not worry.

Windows 10 64bit can't working with my laptop

@GeeSuth Have you tried to disable "Fast start-up" yet?

You can also enable the "forced button/lid shut-down" option to show in Advanced Power Settings by changing the registry key I provided here below to see if that will work. Just note that when it is set to "On" any open apps with unsaved work will be automatically closed without a warning when the laptop is shutdown. Also ensure the power button/lid close action is set to shutdown.

Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Enable Forced Button/Lid Shutdown [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\PowerSettings\4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347\833a6b62-dfa4-46d1-82f8-e09e34d029d6] "Attributes"=dword:00000000[/quote]

    Hi there

That's not quite true actually when you have a 64 bit CPU -- it can certainly be worthwhile installing a 64 bit OS even on 2GB RAM.

Without going too much into OS Internals -- way beyond the scope of this post so a simple (slightly oversimplified but conceptually OK) explanation here.

A 32 Bit OS on a 64 bit CPU has to basically do a LONGER instruction set to execute the 64 bit (The internal CPU -- NOT the OS) machine instruction set. (Approx 2 machine words to execute a 64 bit CPU instruction).

The memory mapping also takes more work and space as you need a more complex algorithm to use for addressing -- e.g you can think of a 32 bit OS memory mapper as a telephone nr with the city (area) code say 213 and then the 4 digit number. The same 4 digit number can be used with different city codes say 419. These need to be remembered and stored so the right bit of memory is addressed.

Now on a 64 bit CPU that still has to be converted into a Real RAM address . Note I'm talking here about the CPU not the OS !!!!!.

A 64 bit OS uses RAM addresses directly -- no need for any of that conversion.

All these are overheads so it's not surprising that on a 4GB RAM a 32 bit OS might only show 2.7GB useable whereas on the 64 bit OS you might get 3.8GB useable.

Again depending on other hardware - PCI cards etc - these could reserve RAM too so it's not an exact science - but in general if your CPU is 64 bit go for a 64 bit OS even on less than 4GB RAM.

On VM's (Virtual machines) it's also a no brainer - I have several W10 / W7 x-64 versions running with 1 or 2 GB RAM - no probs at all.

    Cheers

This is what I'm running at the moment and at this moment I'm not sure its worth reverting back to x64 tbh. An SSD ensures it all flies along anyway. I think you gain in some areas and probably lose in others, much as Jimbo suggests.
