Windows 10: Windows 10, 8.1 updating very outdated bios all on an older Toshiba s55t

I picked this toshiba up off ebay and when I first got it someone from microsoft helped me update/grade its windows 10 version I think it was home to what was supposed to be pro but I learned later I’m running windows 10 enterprise on it. That being said I was never informed that it was originally windows 8.1, which would be fine but this is the little laptop that can’t as its struggling to deal with the components of windows 10 alone having the added strain of the enterprise version add that up and I get to use it as a paper weight! Now throw in the fact it’s still running the first bios that model came out with I’m shocked as all hell that it’s got the most responsive touchscreen I’ve come across & that plus all my stickers makes it worth trying to save but how exactly? Do I try to flash its bios while it freezes every other second and gets stuck there until it either shuts off in a tiff or I close the lid or I shut it off. Do I try to do a clean install of windows 8.1 then flash the bios? Do I do a fresh install of windows 10 then try to flash the bios? Oh and do I update all the updates in order on the bios and lastly how in hell does one preform flashing/updating of said bios under these circumstances seeing this is how I will be losing my bios virginity actually my which program piled up on a way outdated bios virginity... a fun one at that oh and the toshiba won’t back up or anything like that either. It might be creating a recovery usb now, but it might be empty like everything else it creates & I have 350,000+ photos I cant get off it! Any help is much appreciated, thank you!

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."
