Windows 10: Windows 10 activation denied

I have a volume license agreement and that's where my original Windows 7 or Windows 8 activation keys are stored. Several years ago whenever Microsoft wanted people to upgrade to Windows 10 for free I did that. A few days ago the motherboard went out in my computer and windows decided it would not activate any longer. It said the new motherboard did not have a digital license and so it invalidated the windows install. I've called Microsoft and they said that they have invalidated all of the Windows 7 and 8 licenses so you can't activate them anymore. I was under the assumption that once you bu

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
