Windows 10: Windows 10 activation problem

This is in regards to my wife's laptop PC. Originally installed with Win 7, it got the free upgrade to 10 a while ago. 2 weeks ago, something happened with her Office 365 account, and ever since then the thing has been behaving oddly. On many (but not all - internet pages usually work) menus and pages scrolling down no longer works - it just sort of bounces back to the top.


In addition, Windows is no longer activated, and all attempts to activate (we have NOT tried buying a new license key) have failed. We extracted the product key from the machine, but when used it claims that her organization won't allow the activation to go through. This is rather troubling, as this is her personal machine and it has never been part of an organization, unless the Russian mafia or the Yakuza have taken it over.


So... how do I get this "organization" out of the picture so that the (re-) activation can proceed? Or am I looking at an infected machine?

How long did you wait for activation?
When I re-installed with a fresh install... it took a few hours to sync and activate.
However, it did, finally, activate.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
