  1. Windows 10 Activation - Upgrading from a older assembled PC to a new assembled PC (Non OEM)

    Hello All,

    • I had a 10 year old system that we were using. It was an assembled PC. We were using Windows 7 on it.
    • When Windows 10 came out offering the free upgrade, I did it.
The system kept showing that the Windows 10 license for my PC is now linked to my email ID.
    • Since then I have had some HDD issues and have had to format my HDD fully and reinstall Windows 10 around 3 or 4 times.
Every time I reinstall it, it would ask me to sign in with my MS email. Once I did it, Windows would get activated.
    • Recently, I changed my hardware and signed in with the same ID and am getting a activation error.
    • I still had my old PC so I did a fresh install on it. It seems to be getting activated on my old PC even know.
    • I have spoken to three different teams so far each sending me to a new team to resolve my issue.
    • One of the team member told me that my license is linked to the hardware on my old PC. Hence it is activating on it every time.
I need to delink the license from the old hardware and transfer it to the new hardware.
    • Unfortunately, no one seems to know how to do this. Each team said I do no know or am not the right person to do this.
    • I am so lost. Someone, please HELP ME!

    PS:

    • I still have my old PC, in case it will help in anyway.
    • As requested by a customer care direct line, I ran the 'slmgr' command.
I am not sure how this helps or what it achieves, but it comes out as shown below. Windows 10 Activation - Upgrading from a older assembled PC to a new assembled PC (Non OEM) 56ee0385-86dd-4813-aba3-ab65b8298142?upload=true.jpg

  2. Windows 10 Upgrade and Newly assembled PC query

    Hi,

I will try to keep the question as short as possible.

    1. I have a PC running activated Windows 7 Professional (retail version).

    2. I am eligible for the upgrade and I have received the notification. As per the upgrade plan, I can upgrade for free until 28th July 2016.

    3. I am NOT upgrading now, because I am planning to buy a newly assembled PC early 2016.

    4. Since my Windows 7 is retail version, I am planning to do a clean/fresh install of Windows 7 when I assemble the new PC and activate it.

    5. Once Windows 7 is installed and activated on the newly assembled PC, I want to use the Windows 10 upgrade and upgrade permanently to Windows 10. And then want to use Windows 10 for future clean installations.

    Is the above possible?

For point 4 above, do I need to manually deactivate Windows 7 on my current PC
before fresh installation and activation on a newly assembled PC? Is it mandatory? If so, what's the procedure?

    Thanks a lot.
