Windows 10: Windows 10 activation

I have been receiving messages that my windows 10 is due for renewal soon. I bought my refurbished computer from a house mate but unfortunately he was not given the product key.

I did not know at the time of purchasing the desktop that I will need to renew my windows 10.

What do I do to get the product key?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
