Windows 10 - administrator bug after May update

    Hi everyone

So I installed the new May update on my Windows 10 laptop. No issues during installation, but just prior, my laptop indicated that it had to shut down due to an error hence the reason for the update. Afterwards, I checked to see if anything was wrong: DISM, SFC scan etc., all came back clean.

Fast forward: I wanted to update CCleaner, which you have to do manually. No problem with that. 2 seconds later, I try to do the same with WinRar: now my laptop gives me that stupid Smartscreen-whatever pop-up, I click "more info", "install anyway", and suddenly my Windows 10 claims I don't have administrator rights.

I go checking: 1 account on my laptop, with administrator rights. I tried the following, to no avail:

    - Using cmd to activate net administrator: nothing.

    - Changing properties on the WinRar installation folder: nothing.

    - Running DISM again: nothing.

    - Running SFC again: errors, but supposedly fixed

So I got fed up with the update, trying to restore it to the previous point. Suddenly, my laptop claims I can't, because I made another user account I have to remove first: the administrator account. NO IDEA WHATSOEVER how I should do that.

Anyone any ideas how I can 1 either fix the issue of my laptop not recognizing me as the only administrator, 2 resetting it to a previous update?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joris

    :)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Windows 10 - administrator bug after May update

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
