Windows 10: windows 10: after windows update KB5015807 explorer doesn't show any icons or thumbnails

Hi there,After Windows updated yesterday on my laptop to KB5015807, the file explorer doesn't show icons or thumbnails anymore, just the names of the objects. Also, when I right click on any object in the explorer, the corresponding "Properties" window won't show up. On my desktop, the icons are also gone; on the taskbar, only the default icon is shown for all shortcuts except for MS Office and iTunes--isn't that ironic?. I did not install any other third party software right before or after the windows update. Everything else seems to work just fine. I searched the Web for solutions and tri

Windows Explorer crashes and thumbnails problem

Hi, I hope you can help me.
Windows Explorer is no longer showing thumbnails on files played by Windows Media Player. I've run cmd and regsvr32 shmedia.dll and regsvr32 shimgvw.dll. That seemed to solve the problem...but it created a different one. Now when I try to open a folder on an external hard drive it crashes. I read in an old 2008 post it was an avi file causing the problem and suggested the run cmd regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll. That solved the opening problem but recreated the thumbnail problem. Any help to achieve both functions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

File Explorer - Some PDF's show thumbnail image, some don’t

In Windows 10 File Explorer, I see thumbnails for a few of my pdf files but still see the generic Adobe pdf icon for most of them.

• In Windows 10 folder options, the checkbox for “Always show icons, never thumbnails” is unchecked.
• On the Adobe Reader preferences general tab, “Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer” is checked.
• Adobe Acrobat is set as my default PDF viewer.
• I have used Disk Cleanup to delete all my thumbnails to clear and rebuild the cache, yet the problem persists.

Any suggestions on how I can see all the pdf icons as thumbnails?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
