    Windows 10 allowing long file paths not working.


    I am using Windows 10, version 21H2. I need to create multiple folders within a parent folder. However I am constantly plagued by the 260 maximum character limit in windows. Learning that microsoft had supposedly disabled that limit sometime in 2016, and that file/folder paths can go up to 32k characters. I attempted to follow online guides to vanquish the path length limit. 1 I have gone into regedit and changed "0" into "1" in LongPathsEnabled. did not work after restarting computer2 I have gone into Local Group Policy Editor and manually enabled Win32 long paths. did not work after res

    Is it risky to enable long file paths on Windows 10?

    Windows 10 has an option to allow for longer file paths (background). Is it risky to enable this option?

    I ask because I've heard mixed comments about how there can be bugs related to long file names.

    Ok thanks for confirming this. I know that some programs do allow for paths greater than 260 characters, however, we have very little desire to install an alternative file explorer on everyone's computer in a large company. Does the Windows product have
    a product roadmap to indicate when long file paths will be supported in File Explorer?

    Hmm, bad news I'm afraid. In this thread I see replies from
    apparently well-informed people claiming that even though Windows 10 is ready for long paths, Windows Explorer is not. It is suggested that a 3rd party fileviewer "One Commander" does support long paths.
