  1. Windows 10 Alt Hotkey + File Menu Issues

When working in some of the programs that I use on a regular basis I use the alt key to perform an action in the program, but windows has been disrupting me greatly because of the alt hotkey. When I press the alt key is highlights the file menu area and then I have to re-click the alt key to be able to use program hotkeys. I've been trying to find a solution online but I have been yet to do so.

The hotkey is explained in the article here: Work with menus and commands by using shortcut keys

But I don't know how to disable it. I tried disabling my hotkeys through my Intel graphics, as there is no option to select a graphics by windows when right-clicking the desktop, at least not on my computer. This hotkey really does not make very much sense to me. Especially not being able to easily turn it off. It should be included in the above article the ways in which to remove this setting. I can see how it would help some but anyone who uses any non-windows programs to do any work could be hindered. A lot of the Adobe products use the Alt key for a lot of functions. Please advise on how to remove this hotkey.

I am having this issue as I use Adobe programs. I've seen it in other programs but it never bothered me and also never become an issue until very recently on those programs. It happens when I am holding down alt to perform an action and then after am using a hotkey to select the tool I need next. So I hold down alt and then after click C for my cut tool and then the clip menu opens. It isn't the end of the world, but it is very disruptive and frustrating when it halts my progress and workflow.

    :)

  2. 1,2,3 hotkeys

    Hi,

Hotkeys are keyboard shortcuts that you can use as an alternative to what you typically do with a mouse. You may perform these steps to assign a hotkey to an application, and to a folder and file:

Assign a hotkey to an application:

    • Open Start Menu.
    • Find the application, right-click on it > More > Open File Location.
    • Right-click on the application > Properties.
    • On the Shortcut tab, enter the keys you want to use in the Shortcut key box. Windows will add "Ctrl + Alt", however if you'll choose to use a function key or a numeric key, "Ctrl + Alt will not be added.
    • Click OK.

Assign a hotkey to a folder or file:

    • Create a file or folder shortcut.
    • Right-click the shortcut file > Properties.
    • On the Shortcut tab, enter the keys you want to use in the Shortcut key box. Windows will add "Ctrl + Alt", however if you'll choose to use a function key or a numeric key, "Ctrl + Alt will not be added.
    • Click OK.

  3. GUI Issue - Windows 7

No GUI means no start menu and desktop icons? That usually means explorer.exe isn't running. Hit ctrl+alt+del, open the Task Manager, and see if explorer.exe is in the processes list. If not, go to File -> New Task and enter the following: C:\Windows\explorer.exe

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
