Windows 10: Windows 10 Alt Tab Causes File Explorer to open randomly, crashes explorer.exe, Breaks...

I've re-created this on 2 computers so far, ran sfc /scannow on both with no issues.Computer SpecsGigabyte mainboard not sure which model off hand.Intel i9-9900knVidia RTX 3090Dell Optiplex 980Intel i7-870nVidia GT 730The first issue is just an annoyance, but "almost" every time I tab out of a fullscreen application Like Rocket League mostly File Explorer popups. If I alt-tab in and out multiple times usually watching youtube between rounds or waiting for matches etc then I'll have like 3 - 4 File Explorers popup on my screen I need to close out of. Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Explorer crashes and thumbnails problem

Hi, I hope you can help me.
Windows Explorer is no longer showing thumbnails on files played by Windows Media Player. I've run cmd and regsvr32 shmedia.dll and regsvr32 shimgvw.dll. That seemed to solve the problem...but it created a different one. Now when I try to open a folder on an external hard drive it crashes. I read in an old 2008 post it was an avi file causing the problem and suggested the run cmd regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll. That solved the opening problem but recreated the thumbnail problem. Any help to achieve both functions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

Windows explore crash when searching

The tenforums link solved this issue for me.

The root cause is a Windows 10 bug where File Explorer crashes when long file names are included in a search result. The steps for the workaround are:

• Open File Explorer
• Click View > Options
• Open the View tab
• Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
• Click OK
