"Microsoft has received a small number of reports that Windows 10 computers freeze after upgrading to Anniversary Update.

The US technology firm has admitted that computers with the Windows 10 operating system stored on a solid-state drive and applications and data saved to a separate drive can run into issues.

Some users saw their systems freeze whenever they clicked on the Start Menu, or tried to load an application from the taskbar.

The freeze does not occur when Windows 10 is started in Safe Mode.

Microsoft says it is looking into a permanent solution for the problem, but in the meantime, has offered a temporary fix."

For those having the issue, won't the upgrade try to re-install after a rollback?

 

So, It is time for spending money for win 10 !!!! *Sad

After the update I had a lot of issues, I had to reboot more than 8 times to get rid of some of them and
a few updates have caused an issue withe the start menu not showing anything at all when left clicked.
I also have the same issue with the Start menu after updating some drivers but, it appears to go away
after a few restarts but, I have been getting random lockups since the upgrade and I only have ONE
drive and it is an SSD??? It may not be related but, it is strange.

 

The term "temporary fix" is rather overstated here.

To rollback (or use safemode) is not a fix as that is tantamount to saying the problem cannot be fixed on current build until they provide one!

 

No, not necessarily. If you're already running Windows 10, and have a Digital License, you can just clean install the Anniversary Update instead of doing an upgrade. It will activate just fine. I've done both and had no activation issues.

 

If you check the box for "Defer feature updates" it shouldn't reinstall.

 

Temporary fix until a patch is released, and or rolled into the install media. I totally agree with what your saying though. It's not a real fix for the problem. It's how to bail out and (hopefully) go back to a working system.

 

Has anybody with this issue tried doing a clean install of the AU? I've had some glitches after doing an upgrade to a new build in the past. No such issues when doing a clean install of that build though.

 

I'm surprised that with all the testing from MS and the Insiders that this didn't appear before the AU.

 

I always wondered if Microsoft has enough insiders. A lot quit testing since the new requirement of Microsoft requiring a valid windows 10 license to do the betas.
