Finally I was forced to take the April 2018 Windows 10 Updates. I've been an IT Professional for 30 years (that happens to live 5 miles from Microsoft Headquarters). Over the years I have been increasingly disappointed with the reliability of MS software and the heavy handed interference with the management of my PC O/S.

This is a perfect example. After the update, I have MS Office ProPlus installed (I own an Office Family license) and am getting a constant nag in my Office apps that it is going to expire in a few days and a Buy button. I don't need or want Office ProPlus! This forced install and nag to buy is the most infuriating thing MS has done to date. Completely unacceptable.

To make matters worse, now I can't search my thousands of email messages for keywords as it appears during the update, the Outlook index was erased. This is my business PC and now I am seriously hampered in finding important client emails. Thanks Microsoft for making it harder right now to do my job! UNBELIEVABLE!

What is interesting is that initially I was being nagged that the update was too large to install due to the diminishing free space on my O/S partition due to all the bloated O/S files accumulating. Someone at MS must have finally got a clue and restructured the update to be more compact as I had a few GB of free space and I'm sure many others were in my same boat. Looks like all the good software Engineers are going to Amazon and Google these days in my opinion.

What other pleasant surprises are in store for me after this update that will ruin my productivity?

    :)

    Spoiler Office 2019
Last year at Ignite, we announced Office 2019 – the next perpetual version of Office that includes apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business). Today we’re pleased to share the following updates:

    • Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018.
    • Office 2019 apps will be supported on:
      • Any supported Windows 10 SAC release
      • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018
      • The next LTSC release of Windows Server
    • The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.

Microsoft blocks Windows 10 April Update for Intel SSD 600p Series

Microsoft is blocking some Intel SSDs from installing the April 2018 Update after discovering an incompatibility issue that causes performance and stability issues. In short, the problem was explained by Microsoft as: “When attempting to upgrade to Window 10 April 2018 Update select devices with certain Intel SSDs may enter a UEFI screen reboot or crash repeatedly.” Microsoft says that this issue has no workaround and that those that have attempted to update Windows 10 to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update should revert back to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709.

Unfortunately, the announcement by Microsoft fails to list what specific Intel SSD models are having issues with the OS update. We contacted Intel and discovered that the Intel SSD 600p Series of client drives that was first introduced to the market in 2016 is the most popular drive that is having issues.
