Windows 10: Windows 10 audio drivers and headset microphone recognition

Hi,

I've encountered a couple of problems with sound on my Windows 10 laptop. The original issue was very similar to the one outlined here: sound would become much louder in all media after pausing and then playing. I followed the suggestion from that thread to install the generic Microsoft High Definition Audio Device instead of the Realtek one, which solved the issue.

But then when I plugged my headset into the audio jack via an audio/mic splitter (I was using the correct 4 conductor 3.5mm version) my computer no longer recognized the headset's external microphone (only the internal one). So ... I switched back to the Realtek audio driver, which in turn recognized my external mic ... but I'm obviously now back at square one with the original sound problem!

Is there a solution to this vicious cycle?

Razer Kraken 7.1 Working on Skype but not working for Cortana

Hi, I have a strange issue. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. After I plugged in my Razer headset (I have updated to latest drivers using Razer Synapse), I find that the headset and microphone WORKS for Skype but when I try to configure the
microphone for Cortana, the microphone is not capturing sound. I have gone into the 'Sound Properties' tab in Settings and chosen Razer as my default device for 'Playback' and 'Recording'. When I go into Control panel --> Speech Recognition and click on 'Start
Speech Recognition', it says 'Make sure your audio hardware is working properly........'. Pls help.

 

my phone doesnt recognize any audio speech

speech recognition has been enabled long before the issue occurred. i really don't know what's causing it. audio recognition only works with the use of a headset, but handsfree is to no avail. could it be the internal microphone?

 

Hi j123 and welcome to the forum, I use a Corsair Void Headset but only for gaming as The sound is 7.1 my normal sound is basic so I use a program called AudioSwitchSetup.2.1.5.0. You can choose which device is default with it. It may help you.

The Microsoft High Definition Audio Codec (Driver) is a generic, basic function, driver and should only be used if the sound chip hardware driver (Realtek in this case) is not available.

Do you have any Sound "Enhancements" set in the Realtek HD Audio Manager such as Loudness, custom EQ, etc? If you do disable those. Also, you should have Stereo Mix set as the Default Recording Device. Although this is a "recording" device it will affect playback (it is equivalent to the old "What You Hear" that Creative SoundBlaster called it).

 

Thanks for the responses. For some reason the original playback issue isn't occurring now, so that's ok, but the other problem has returned: my computer won't recognize the external mic on my headset when connected via an audio/mic splitter/adapter. It recognizes the mic when I connect it directly to the computer, but I only have one headphone/mic combo jack on my laptop, so I can't use both features of the headset. It might be an issue with the laptop jack itself, which I guess isn't a problem for a Windows 10 forum. Anyway thanks again!

 

I would suspect the adapter. You can buy another adapter, they are cheap.
