Windows 10: Windows 10 Audio White Noise

The sound on my laptop recently stopped working entirely. The sound has been completely replaced by faint white noise that plays slightly after the sound should start and lingers slightly after it should stop. Additionally, when switching to wired headphones the audio always crackles briefly. The volume of the noise is constant regardless of volume or muting, and nothing plays at all out of the computer's speakers; the white noise only seems to occur when I'm using wired headphones. When using my wireless headphones which have their own set of drivers the audio is just fine. This problem also seems to have occurred with previous versions of windows, but the underlying cause seems to vary.


I've run through all the recommended fixes on the "Fix sound problems in Windows 10" article save for resetting my PC, which I am saving as a last resort, and manually reinstalling my sound drivers, though I have induced an automatic re-installation several times. They are, as far as I can tell, the current versions. I haven't rolled back anything, and have not been able to find past versions of them. No audio enhancements, sound service restarted several times, all device settings line up, etc.


I had let my computer sit for a while before booting up and noticing the problem, and there was a windows update installed prior to the issue arising. I've had issues with audio before, but this one just won't go away... is there a possibility that the issue is hardware?

White noise after updating Windows 10 Pro

• I have a HP ProBook 470 G4 runing Windows 10 Pro with 16GB of ram and an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz. Last night windows did an update. this morning I find that all audio plays with white noise over it. the white noise is loud and I can barely
  make out the audio if at all. I have run my HP assistant and updated all drivers and still no change. This happened once before after a windows update and I was able to fix it by updating the audio drivers, no such luck this time. This machine has two audio
  devices and both as listed as OK. Intel Display Audio and Conexant ISST Audio and I have also repaired both of those drivers as well and are both listed as OK. Does anyone have any ideas as to whats going on and how I may fix this issue. Thanks in advance

White noise

Every so often when I open a window [new tab] my computer will play white noise (babbling brook, chirping birds) and I don't know how to disable it / turn it off. Suggestions?

 

White Noise on Video Content

As of yesterday when ever I try to open a video, you tube I am hearing a very annoying 'white noise' over and above the commentary or audio content.

This sound is even accompanying incoming email messages on Outlook.

I have run troubleshooter and restarted my laptop but this has not solved the problem.

Any suggestions ?
