  1. Windows 10 Auto Adjusting Mic Output After Wake-up from Sleep

I have a cheap usb microphone that uses default windows pnp drivers. It always auto adjusts its volume down to very quiet levels however it only happens after i launch the PC from sleep. A fresh boot or restart will never have the microphone auto adjusting its volume down. I have tried allow exclusive apps to take control On/Off but same result both ways where it only auto adjusts after wakeup from sleep. Skype, discord and steam were all disabled at startup so they are not the problem.

    Windows 10 Mic/Line Input Auto-Adjustment

So Windows 10 appears to have introduced some form of native system-level microphone/line input automatic adjustment that programs that can be hooked into which is causing me to sound like a whisper via my Condenser mic in some applications and I would love
to find a way to disable it so that I can control input adjustment myself. Does anyone know how to do this as searching around is not giving me any viable results.

    Things of note;

    • This is only happening on certain applications, such as Firefox, the Discord desktop app and Skype (with exception I'll note below).

    • All my USB headset mics seem to be fine

    • This is happening only on my condenser mic via 3.5mm

    • It's happening across two distinct sound hardwares (a dedicated audio card and the onboard motherboard audio), implying this is not a driver/hardware issue (they are two completely different chipsets but yes they have been updated regardless).

    • Audio-relative software (OBS, Adobe Audition, 3rd party mixers like Voicemeeter Banana) all take my input fine, I effectively sound normal when using any of these to record locally, playback my mic directly or even stream on twitch.

    • It seems to be explicitly limited to software that uses/hooks into whatever windows natively provides for input auto adjustment. And the main reason I've come to the conclusion it's something windows-provided is because Skype only does this when I enable
it's "Automatic adjustment" in it's settings. If I disable that setting I sound perfectly fine as I should. With Skype and Microsoft being pretty heavily windows-integrated these days, particularly in Windows 10 it gives me a heavy feeling that it's likely
a native windows feature that Skype is hooking into, and the above mixed-software outcomes back it up imo.

Does anyone know how I can possibly disable this feature at a system-wide level? I'll even take some powershell/CLI convoluted trickery, I just want to be able to use my setup like I had previously in Windows 7.

  3. wake from sleep issue in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the command line below:
    Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

    3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

    Hope the information is helpful.

Windows 10 Auto Adjusting Mic Output After Wake-up from Sleep

Windows 10 Will Not Auto Sleep

I've seen lots of threads about similar issues here and I think I've tried everything I've read but nothing will make my PC sleep. It worked fine with Windows 8.1 but since 10 it doesn't matter what I change, the only way to make the PC sleep is to do it manually.

Here are some of the steps I've followed with no success:

    - powercfg /requests shows nothing
    - powercfg /energy doesn't show anything interesting
    - no media sharing is enabled
    - homegroup is disabled
    - disabling NIC has no effect
    - removing everything from the PC other than power and HDMI for video has no effect
    - everything but my mouse is set not to wake pc (I have also tried with the mouse also set to no avail)
    - updated drivers where possible

The weird thing is if I don't log onto the PC from a reboot, it will sleep just fine - the minute I log on it refuses to auto sleep. Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, the sleep works just fine again.

It's driving me crazy as combined with the auto setting for windows update (despite having disable wake timers selected) the PC will sometimes wake in the middle of the night and stay on until I sleep it again.

A guy here at Reddit has the same issue, but the thread isn't seeing much activity:
My self-built Windows 10 PC will not automatically go to sleep under any condition : techsupport

Happy to answer questions about my setup or try suggestions.

    Thanks in advance!
