Windows 10: Windows 10 Automatic time zone detection doesn't work.

Hi, I've been managing the IT for a relatively large company for several years. I've done several hundred windows 10 installs, with a variety of installation media, and I've never seen automatic timezone detection work. I've done this on many different kinds of computers with different hardware, and in several different time zones. I've done it with several different versions of installers. This behavior is present in default clean installs which have never been on the internet, up until they're fully updated. This seems to only be fixed when I manually set the time zone. I know that you can in many cases make the auto detection start working by manually starting or restarting the associated service, but I don't really accept that as a fix because I shouldn't have to manually fix things that are broken by default in an operating system that I pay for. What makes this more frustrating is that this isn't an unsolvable problem by any means. It works fine on every Mac I work with, and in Linux this has been working properly for 15 years. So partially I needed to vent about this, but also, is this a problem that we can expect fixed any time in the future?

Wrong time zone detected


When I go up to my cabin, Windows always changes my time zone to Pacific. I'm in Mountain Time, and I actually go east to get to the cabin. I don't know if it's the IP address, or the WiFi network, or what, but it happens every time. If I go into Time settings and disable automatically detect timezone, I can set it back to mountain time. But if I re-enable auto-detect, it switches right back to Pacific.

Is there any way I can teach Windows the correct time zone so that it auto-detects correctly?

 

Set Time Zone Automatically

Your suggestion, while good, did not correct my problem. What it did do was lead me to the answer, thank you.

Seems that the default location set for my computer was blank. When time zone was set to automatic, Windows didn't know where I was and probably reverted to the last entry in the zone list, Moscow. I re-entered my proper location, set the zone to Auto and
everything was good to go.

 

Windows 10 Phone Automatic Time Zone Not Working

With every mobile phone I've every owned, I'm accustomed to the clock updating to the current time zone time when I land in a different time zone than the zone from which I departed. Not so with my Lumia 950 on the AT&T network. I have set the "Set time
zone automatically" setting to On and the phone will keep the departure location's time zone. Today I departed the Pacific time zone and arrived in the Central time zone and my phone did not update when I joined the wireless network upon landing. This is
extremely frustrating. Yes, I can manually update the time and time zone. That is not a solution. Please issue a bug fix so that the Set time zone automatically setting works as intended.
