Windows 10: Windows 10 Backing Up To Partitioned External HDD

I've split an external HDD into two partitions A and B. The HDD initially had some files from another pc stored on it in section A that I do not want to lose.
I've created a NTFS formatted partition in section B and am trying to back it up using "control panel/all control panel items/backup and restore (windows 7)/create a system image".

I select "on a hard disk", it searches and finds the section B NTFS partition on the external HDD that I have named "BACKUP" and it defaults to the (K drive.

There is enough space, however I am given the following warning message: "the drive selected is on the same physical disk that is being backed up. If this disk fails, you will lose your backups."



I assume this is because the backup is trying to include section A of my external HDD as a backup.

How do I get around this ?
Can I chose to only back up "Local Disk (C" and "System Reserved (I ?

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

External HDD Partitions

I have an external HDD. It had multiple partitions. I removed partitions with this procedure: Press the "Start" button, type "diskmgmt.msc" and press "Enter." 3. Right-click the existing partition on the external hard drive, select "Delete Volume" and
choose to remove the partition. I did this to remove all partitions and NOW the computer doesn't recognize the drive in file explorer. What can I do?

Please guide me, if possible step by step on how to install Windows 10 on external HDD.
