Windows 10: Windows 10 Backup System Image Stuck at 97% - Fixed by running Disk Optimization on...

I had the problem with the Windows 10 Backup System Image being stuck at 97% and none of the fixes previously reported fixed the problem. I then tried running the Disk Optimization on the destination drive for the backup. The Optimization took some time, but the backup then ran to completion very quickly. Hope this helps.

System Image Backup has been deprecated and is no longer supported.

Usually, when SIB 'hangs' at 97%, it is still working. Although it displays 97%, it usually only about 50% complete. If you have a disk activity light you should still see it working.

Look at free versions of Macrium Reflect or AOMEI BackUpper

I suggest you to perform the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

I suggest you to run check disk on the hard drive to see if there are any corruptions.

Follow the below steps:

• Windows key + X, click
  Command Prompt (Admin).
• Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press
  ENTER:

chkdsk /f

Disclaimer: While performing check disk on the hard drive, if any bad sectors are found then check disk will try to repair that sector. Any data available on a bad sector might be lost.

Once Check Disk completes, boot the computer and then check.

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2: Perform System File Checker (SFC) scan.

Try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any file corruption. SFC scan will scan for corrupt system files on the computer and repair them.

Follow the below steps:

• Press Windows key + X, click
  Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press
  ENTER:

sfc /scannow

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 3: DISM Commands.

Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM.

System Image Backup Stalling at 97%

Hi, sorry for my english, I spek french.

I've a similar problem with windows 10 version 1511, my backup stalls at 97 % during creation of system image.

After some hours, nothing changes but my PC goes to sleep automatically.

If I suppress the creation of system image in the backup settings, the backup finished normally after some minutes.

At the moment the backup stalls at 97 % , an error occurs in the event viewer:

CAPI12 Event 513

AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Protocole LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) Microsoft.

System Error:

Acces denied.

Like you, I've tested different solutions after creating a restore point to get back.

The error disappear but the backup continue to stalls at 97 %.

I went back to my previous retore point awaiting a Microsoft solution.

I will also mention that I've made 2 days ago a new clean install of win 10. Backup works correctly.

After update to win 10 version 1511 yesterday, the backup problem is back, stalling at 97 %
