Windows 10: Windows 10 Black Screen with cursor.

Hi!


I'm posting this here in hopes of getting my pc fixed. I've gone through various TS alrewdy and nothing seem to have worked. I'll give you a brief rundown on what happened.


Oh and by the way, I'm not an expert on Windows architecture, but I can follow and understand technical terms so I'm not that stupid when it comes to these kinds of stuff.


Few days ago, my computer experienced a blue screen error. I wasn't able to get the exact error it was saying cause I was busy working on some other stuff so I just let my computer restart automatically. The computee was just idle when this happened. The last windows update I had was I think Aug. of 2020. I doubt this is caused by malware or a virus since I get all my apps and games from trusted and verified sources. I vaen't had any new installations for months now, and the latest one was Valorant which was installed last June. As for external means like flashdrives and other storage devices, all of them are clean.


Then the problem started. Computer won't reach the login screen. Only thing I see is the cursor, Like I said I've went through various channels for some TS that can fix these, but unfotunately, new errors keep coming up everytime I get to a certain point in the TS provided.


Below is the list of basic TS performed:


1. On the black screen with only the cursor visible I tried to pull up task manager Ctrl + shift + Esc, sticky keys prompt, and pressing the Ctrl + Alt + Del shorcut doesn't do anything. Tried to right click where my taskbar is but it didn't work either.


2. Tried the startup/automatic repair, didn't work.


3. Tried System restore, didn't work cause my computer has no system restore points my fault for not enabling this


4. Tried the uninstall updates option, both options Uninstall latest quality/feature update didn't work. Error says "We ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall latest update of Windows.


Here's where other problems started:

TLDR: None of the TS fixed my problem.


Tried to boot into safe mode, before it displays the login screen, an error appears saying "LogonUI -System error. The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application."


Next thing I tried is to fix this error by going to the Windows RE command prompt and inputting the command powercfg -h off. Error appeared saying "Hibernation failed with the following error: The reuquest is not supported. The following items are preventing hibernation on this system. Windows does not support Hibernate during the upgrade process. Windows Preinstallation Environment does not support Hibernate."


Next command I tried was the REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" /V HiberbootEnabled /T REG_dWORD /D 0 /F command. This command was successful. I disabled fast boot through BIOS following the TS.


After all these, the error about the LogonUI is still there preventing menu logging in to windows.


Next I followed this video: https://youtu.be/-N28hQCmzY0. All was going well until I got to the end where he imaged his HDD to another one and booted his pc using that.


Brief rundown on the TS:


All the basic TS listed above followed by commands followed by CMD commands. Found my Windows drive and proceeded with Chkdsk /f /r. It took hours before it finished. It's a pretty old HDD so that's why. When the results came up, it said no issues found. I tried SFC scan on the windows drive and wouldn't you know it, corrupt files were found but cannot be fixed.


As of now I'm creating a bootable USB drive to repair windows using that. What I'm thinking is that if the repair fails, I'm going to install windows into my other newer HDD and just transfer my old files from the older HDD to the newer one once I booted up to windoes on the newer HDD. I don't know if this will work so can anyone help me on this please.


Let me know if you need any more information that can help. I left out some irrelevant information to keep this question a bit shorter and for less confusion as well.

Windows 10 Black Screen, No Cursor

Please follow the below suggestion and check if that helps.

If you see the black screen only
after sign-in and you can see a mouse cursor:

• While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
  
• If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.
  

If this resolves the black screen, use corruption resolution steps.

Perform SFC scan.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. This article describes how to run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to scan your system
files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows.

I would also suggest you to run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click command prompt (Run as administrator).
• In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press
  Enter key after each command:
  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type
Exit, and then press Enter.

• Were you able to get to the desktop screen after you restarted the system?
  
• When the screen was blank, were you able to see the cursor on the screen?
  
• Did you get any error code or error message?

Black Screen after Log on

So this is not a BSOD ? Have a Windows 10 disc or USB Flash Drive made ? How are you getting to task manager Ctrl.+Alt+Del ? Any cursor on screen ?
