  3. Blinking cursor on dark screen after dpc watchdog and updates

    Hi Nanny,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I can understand, how frustrating it can be, when things don’t work as expected.

I'd be glad to help you.

This error may occur due to the iastor.sys driver, which is not fully compatible with Windows 10.

Please refer to the post from Anannya Podder, replied on October 5, 2015, in the link mentioned below, to fix your issue.

Windows 10 BlueScreen Error due to driver ntsokrnl.exe

I just had the same thing happen on my Surface Pro 3. GSOD actually , but traced back to ntoskrnl.exe also using NirSoft's BlueScreenView. This turned out to require two things to fix (one of which may not apply to your machine):
    1. Had to replace the updated firmware for Spectre that Microsoft released on 1/5 (happened in the form of a followup firmware fix that showed up on 2/6)
    2. Had to apply update KB4058258 to over-ride or undo what the early January (1/3) update KB4056892 did.
The details may differ for AMD processors by way of actual KB numbers, but the process should be the same. Hopefully, this will help you, too.
Here are some resources you may find helpful in puzzling this out:

PS: I blogged about this on 2/6, so you can read that too, if you like: Timely Firmware Update Rescues Surface Pro 3 - Windows Enterprise Desktop.

A BSOD with 0x124 bugcheck code is usually a hardware error. The CPU reports it as an observed error on the BUS.

Could be motherboard, but could be a number of other possibilities too. Please post a set of logfiles as requested at the top of the page. Use the beta08 tool at the end of the instructions for a more comprehensive set of files.
