Windows 10: Windows 10 BSOD nvlddmkm.sys system thread exception not handled

Having some annoying issues tonight with my PC, ended up reinstalling windows 10 and the same issues are cropping up.

I've attached the dump files.

My pc has been overclocked for a while with no issues, playing path of exile; the game began to stutter locked up then crashed to a black screen. When I booted windows again I would get the system repair utility saying it couldnt fix the issue.

All of my media / games are on another SSD so I reinstalled windows, on installing the latest (tried the beta too) nvidia w10 drivers I get the same "nvlddmkm.sys system thread exception not handled" crash.

What i've done:

• Reverted all overclocking to stock
• Reinstalled windows 10
• Tried various driver packages from nvidia
• Moved my GPU to a different slot

None of which have fixed my issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Anniversary update BSOD Error-System Thread Exception Not Handled (Nvlddmkm.sys)

Hello everyone,

After installing Windows 10 Anniversary Update my computer started to get BSOD (System Thread Exception Not Handled) (Nvlddmkm.sys), ONLY, when installing updates from WU and when booting in safe mode.

In your dxdiag log there is no mentioning of a Nvdia GPu only that the system is running the microsoft basic driver.

Can you check in your Device manager that your GPU card is recognized by your system.

Does the GPU card power up, are the fans etc. of your card running.

 

Yep the card is running, its the only display device in the system as the x99 chips dont have a IGPU. Currently trying to flash the card back to its stock BIOS but I'm having some issues with my flash drive being "write protected".

The nvidia drivers complete their installation so their detecting the card, atm I cannot reboot into windows outside of safe mode without it either crashing on a blank screen or running for maybe 30 seconds then crashing to a black screen.

Hopefully when Im able to flash the card back to stock these issues go away.

That is normal with safe mode, it normally isn't recommended to run the tool in safe mode because some data won't be correct like the license data, but there are exceptions like when you can only boot into safe mode.

So I've made some progress, updated my motherboards BIOS, removed the nvidia drivers and creative drivers lets me boot into windows without an issue. From there I've been able to update windows and flash my GPUs bios back to stock.

Still feeling like im in the deep end with this, waiting for windows to update the GPUs driver then crash again but I'm back to 1440p.

Edit: Installed Drivers for my GPU and everything is working fine, happy to have my system back up and running. Thanks for the help!
