Windows 10: Windows 10 build 10240 ISO Upgrade?

I have the Windows 10 build 10240 ISO​ on DVD do i need to do a clean install or can i upgrade from Windows 8.1 with the ISO?

I have windows 10 preview build 10240 will the official windows 10 be release as an update or an iso (I prefer iso)

I was using build 10240.I used the media creation tool to get iso file of windows 10 and have installed it. But it looks just the same with build 10240 I had before. Is this the official version or just the same build download. Please help.

 

you can do both - getting an activation is the issue now

If the copy of Win8.1 is activated the upgrade to 10240 will also be activated. I did that last week with no issues.

Did you install by clicking setup on the DVD or did you boot from the DVD?

 

I had the ISO on a separate HDD and I mounted it and ran the setup while I was in WIn8.1

I performed an in place upgrade install last week by running the Windows 10 Build 10240 Upgrade setup from the ISO file mounted in a virtual drive using Daemon Tools Lite. I didn't even need to enter an activation key. Immediately after the install successfully concluded and I connected to the internet, the upgrade copy of Windows 10 Pro build 10240 activated itself. I have to assume it just used my existing activation key from my previous version of Windows, which was an already validated and activated copy of windows 8.1 Pro.


Even so, I have 30 days from the time of upgrade to rollback the upgrade to my previous version of Windows in order to migrate to the upcoming full RTM version that is scheduled to be released on July 29nth. After all, only a select few beta testers will be allowed to migrate to the Windows 10 RTM version from the currently installed Beta versions or release candidate version build 10240 later this month.
