Windows 10: Windows 10 Build 20H2 and Synaptics Audio

The Website re issues for 20H2 shows last updated at 5th January 2021.

I am on Win 1064 Build 2004 and had experienced Audio loss 3 times twice fixed by online tips. Coincidentally in that week my Lenovo Thinkpad E15 was manually fixed by their NZ Service Dept -re imaged. Then Audio loss recurred on 15 February and was again booked in for Lenovo Service Dept to readdress I wondered had I got a dud Laptop?.

.

On 20 February 2021 one of the 3 Windows updates was for Synaptics 90.285.40 and that immediately restored my audio to work properly.


So my question is . Can I now safely update to Windows 10 Build 20H2 or other there still other concerns re Synaptics Audio and Build 20H2?

  Which windows 10 build are you using?
  

I suggest you to install drivers/software in compatibility mode and check if it works for you. This is to check if this is caused due to any driver/software compatibility issues.

Refer to the following Windows 8 article to install driver/software in compatibility mode, the steps for Windows 8.1 applies to Windows 10 as well.

Synaptics options from Windows 8.1 not working in Windows 10

I understand the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely assist you.

This issue may occur due to the outdated Synaptics Touchpad drivers. Let’s try the simple steps and check if it helps.

I would suggest you to download and install the latest Synaptics Touchpad drivers from the manufacturer’s website and uninstall the Synaptics touchpad drivers and re-install the same again in compatibility mode.

Note: Make sure you provide the correct model number of the computer to download the update driver and save the TouchPad driver and installed it before uninstalling the same.

Step 1.

To uninstall Synaptic touchpad drivers, follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Locate Mice and other pointing devices and expand the same.
  
• 
  Right-click the Synaptic driver and select
  Uninstall. (Note: keep the latest installed Synaptic driver).
  
• 
  Restart the computer, if prompted.
  

Step 2.

To install the driver in compatibility mode.

• 
  Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.
  
• 
  Select Compatibility tab.
  
• 
  Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Let the driver install and then check the functionality.
