Windows 10 built in VPN client multiple connections

I have one VPN definition that works fine.

When adding a second definition the settings don't hold and I haven't been able to get multiple definitions to work.

I can edit the first connection and save the changes with no problem and successfully connect to my other servers.

Is this a know problem? Does anyone know a fix for this?

    gj.

    :)

Best FREE vpn client? Need to connect to my home VPN

I created a remote access VPN (l2tp/ipsec) on my router at my house. If I want to connect to my VPN server remotely ,what do you suggest as a good free vpn client?

I know windows 10 has a built in vpn client, but would I notice any improvments (speed, stability, etc) using like cisco anywhere connect or any other free vpn clients?

  3. Using VPN Connection

I can connect to vpn's (PPTP and L2TP) using the built in vpn client on the device but when I need to make IPSec vpn connections I use the bluefire vpn client
www.bluefiresecurity.com . The client is $79 but you only need this software if you need IPSec vpn connections. for L2TP and PPTP connections the built in vpn client works just fine (with the exception
of connecing to a watchguard PPTP endpoint). Automatic vpn connection will only work if

    • You use netbios names with a connection manager aware application (I.E. windows media player, outlook mobile, internet explorer mobile, file explorer and a few others) and just enter the name without any dots in it.

    • For addresses with dots in the name (I.E. yourserver.domain.whatever) you should enter the root domain in your exceptions list. So in the exceptions list you would enter *.yourdomain.whatever to match anything to that domain. If you have a sub domain
(I.E. yourserver.sub.domain.whatever) and you wanted only to match the sub domain you can enter *.sub.domain.whatever). With this entry in the exceptions list you can now use those dotted addresses. Exceptions is necessary if you plan on trying to connect
to anything with a dotted address through the vpn tunnel because the conneciton manager interprets dotted addresses as if you wanted to be on the internet and it will drop the tunnel even if you manually initiate the vpn tunnel.

Also note that when you setup your vpn connection don't put the connection in the "internet" settings, put it in the "work" settings as connection manager interprets vpn as a "work" connection and won't allow you to connect to a vpn that's set as "internet"

Windows 10 built in VPN client multiple connections

No Internet Connection When VPN Is Connected

This particular issue has been going on for almost a month now. My companies IT department is still trying to figure out the root cause. Below is a list of isolation / troubleshooting i've done.

Issue: Once connected to the work VPN (successfully) the internet connection on the Windows 10 machine disconnects and does not allow any network traffic.

OS: Windows 10 Home - Version: 1909 (OS Build 18363.476)

    Computer: Razor Blade 2019

    - Latest drivers installed

    - Latest Windows updates installed

    - System Wide issue

    Troubleshooting / Isolation

    • Cellular Data: Verified the Windows machine can connect to a hotspot and successfully browse the internet. (No VPN involved)

    • Cellular Data + Work VPN: Verified the Windows machine can connect to the hotspot & successfully connect to work VPN and successfully browse the internet.

    • Home WiFi: Verified Windows machine can connect to the home wifi network and successfully browse the internet (No VPN involved)

    • Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified Windows machine can connect to home WiFi. It can successfully connect to work VPN. However once the work VPN is connected, the home WiFi network indicates (No Internet Access)

    • Ping Test + Work VPN: Verified I can successfully ping (work) websites and even the work VPN URL successfully without any packet loss. However once I go to ping (non-work) related addresses like google.com, apple.com etc. there is packet loss.

At this point I decided to test my work VPN on my iPhone & Apple Mac.

    • iPhone: Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified the iPhone successfully connects to home WiFi network and the work VPN and can successfully browse the internet.

    • Mac: Home WiFi + Work VPN: Verified the Mac successfully connects to home WiFi network and the work VPN and can successfully browse the internet.

Isolated: Only the Windows machine seems to be affected. I even verified this issue occurs on multiple Windows user accounts on the Windows 10 machine.

    - Windows 10 is fully updated to the latest November Windows 10 update and issue persists

    - Deleted and Added the VPN configuration several times and issue persisted.

Third Party VPN Client Test: Tested with Nord VPN and the Windows machine successfully connected to the home WiFi network & the Nord VPN connection successfully connected to a random server and successfully browsed the internet.

    - Disabled IPV6 on VPN & WiFi network configuration (Per IT Support guidance) and issue persisted

*Currently updating to Windows 10 Insider Preview 19033.1 (vb_release) to see if this might fix anything pertaining to Windows 10 VPN.

Thanks for any additional guidance / suggestions / help that the community offers.
