Windows 10: Windows 10 Buzzing through headphone jack when not using an audio/video app

I have a Lenovo X13 Yoga with Windows 10 and Realtek audio. When I plug something into the headphone jack headphones or audio cable I get a humming or buzzing sound. As soon as I play some audio, the humming stops, even if I pause the audio. However, after about 15 seconds, I hear a click and a split second of the hum, then silence for another 5 seconds, then constant hum again. Until I play some audio again. The timing is always 15 seconds, then 5 seconds. It's almost like the headphone jack is getting turned off from inactivity. How can I fix this?

Windows 10 Headphones not auto-selected when inserted to audio jack

Hi, I have an Acer Swift 5 laptop running latest Windows Version 10 64-bit.

Is there a way in setting to select the headphones as the output device automatically when the headphones are connected to the Audio jack?

When the headphones are connected to the audio jack, a notification pops out in bottom right corner prompting:
"Which device did you plug in?", with the Headphone highlighted. I have to then click "OK" to select it.

Is there a setting to make this automatic?

In Sound settings, under "Output device", I only see "Readltek(R) Audio" listed, even the headphones are connected.

problem might be if you are using an external monitor connected via HDMI with HDMI audio.
