2. Lost disc space when installing Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709

I have just installed Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709 and have lost about 8Gbytes of space on my C drive and am now getting very low on disc space.

I have run all of the Windows cleaner processes (Storage Sense ON, Free up disc space Clean Now run). Is there any way to regain my lost disc space as the updated Windows application size on disc is not much different from the previous version.

Where has all the disc space been used?

3. Unable to extend thee partition.

Using Windows 10. I have an external hard drive that was originally partitioned into 2 equal ones as the sole drive in a previous PC. I have deleted 1 partition but I want to extend the other to take up that space. I have tried to use extend partition .
"The operation is not supported by the object" is the error report. How can I recover the wasted space please?

If you are trying to free up more storage space then please follow below instructions.

You should not delete any system files belongs to Windows OS these system files stored in C:\Windows folder and its subfolders.

The Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool can be use to analyze the size of the component store and reduce the size of the component store (WinSxS folder). The WinSxS folder is located in the Windows folder, for example C:\Windows\WinSxS. It’s the location for Windows Component Store files. The Windows Component Store is used to support the functions needed for the customization and updating of Windows. Component store (WinSxS folder) contains all the components that make-up Windows to allow you operate your system. These components are kept to rollback any problematic change or to repair a file that becomes corrupted.

Open the Command Prompt as a Administrator.

Reduce the size of the component store by typing following command:

Code: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
You can reduce the size of the component store further by adding the /ResetBase parameter. The installed Windows Updates cannot be uninstalled after the '/StartComponentCleanup' with '/ResetBase' operation is completed.

Type following command:

Code: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
You can use WinDirStat program to find out sizes of files that are taking more disk space than other files and delete files you don't need.

Clean all temporary files with CCleaner program.

Open the Command Prompt as a Administrator.

Code: Net stop wuauserv Rd /s /q %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution
Above command will delete folder where cache of Windows updates stored.

@Oxlzlope - since you didn't specify, I'll ask:

1) Did you use the "Clean up system files" in Disk Cleanup?

2) Do you have System Protection active on C: drive and, if so, how much disk space do you have allocated to it?

Many times Windows Disk Cleanup tool will report numbers that don't make sense. It' been that way for years.
You have got 176 GB of free space so 5 misreported gigs is no big deal.

Remember that you should reboot after running Disk Cleanup.

Disk Cleanup reported numbers of what it can clean up, and what it actually will cleanup will rarely, if ever, be the same. First, an understanding of what is meant by "Cleanup". When Disk Cleanup runs against the Update Files (patches, cumulatives, etc.) it is first reporting what it found, plain and simple. When the cleanup occurs, not all files are actually deleted, most of the Updates (patches, etc.) are compressed as opposed to deleted. That is done to allow for the possibility of uninstalling (have to know what it contains) and other system functions. It gets quite complex. So, it is not known at the time of reporting up front what the actual savings will be, it is impossible to know until they are compressed and finished.

12. Things I try to remember.

1. You can run Disk Cleanup as often as you care to and then reboot.
2. Windows 10 will not remove anything that will hurt Windows 10.
3. Windows 10 tries to protect itself at all times.
4. Their are many things in Windows 10 and older Windows operating systems, that report things differently.
5. Their are things going on in Windows 10 that my three brain cells will never understand.
6. Their are many things going on in any Windows operating system that Microsoft doesn't tell anybody.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
For myself, I'm not going to spend a lot of time chasing a few MB's of (I don't knows).
I will just get on with my life and learn and enjoy Windows 10.

Just my thoughts.
