Windows 10: Windows 10 canned apps, ie., "default apps" and "add remove programs"

When I go to Search in the task bar, and I search for "default apps" or "add remove programs", the menu list appears. When I click on either of these to launch it, I get an error msg "This file does not have an app associated with it..etc." I tried resetting the file associations to original Windows default, but that doesn't work. I can still launch them from control panel, but not from the search bar. Any ideas?

Windows 10 forgets default apps

I have noticed like not 5mins ago that Winamp just got kicked out of my default apps list in Windows 10 Pro.
I installed this installation not max 3 weeks ago with fresh downloaded Windows 10 Pro using Microsoft Media Creation Tool, is there a way to fix this bcs I using sfc /scannow don't do a lot for me and I have run it before on this installation.

Before u ask, I have fully updated my Windows 10 with all non-insider/beta updates.

The only thing I have disabled is the uac prompt that popup when u need admin for applications to run bcs it's simply annoying.

I don't remember having all these problems with Windows 8.1 Pro when i was using that and I am really thinking about going back so I can have "fully control" over Windows again with like disabling all the admin crap bcs I feel like it's messing more up and makes things less useful in Windows 10 with all these small problems I have and I read a lot of ppl having problems with various things time and time again where they needed to reinstall Win10 over and over to get it to work fully.

Any advice on how I can get Windows 10 to just work as a "daily driver" without all these small annoying things? *Frown

 

Removing duplicate app entries from the default files list

There's a possibility that Firefox isn't uninstalled completely on your computer. We suggest that you uninstall it in the
Settings app by following these steps:

• On Start, select that cog icon or Settings.
• Go to Apps and select the program that you want to uninstall.
• Select Uninstall and follow the instructions on the screen.

How to remove a default file association app from a file type in Windows 10 - set to "no default app" associated

When you selected a certain program in “Open With” there is no option to revert this change. Since DLL files are independent, there is no other program than you can replace the default program with it.
To help you out with your concerns with default programs, we'd like to ask you some questions:

• What were the recent changes made on your computer before you experienced this issue?
• What are the workarounds you have done so far?

• Have you assigned Excel as a default program for DLL files? We would like to confirm this.

You can navigate this by following the steps on this link:
Change default programs in Windows 10. Once there, click
Open Default apps. Then, click Choose default apps by file type.
Look for the DLL file, see if you can remove the assigned program in the DLL format.
