Windows 10: Windows 10 cannot connect printer

I have a brother printer that I am trying to connect to my windows 10 computer. I have tried both wifi connecting and cable connecting and I get 2 messages.

1. Multi function printer quit waiting try again.

I close that window and get the following


Operation could not be completed Error 0x00000002.

system cannot find the file specified.


can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to correct the problem.

Have you tried the suggestions on my initial post, in response to the original poster? If you haven't performed any troubleshooting yet, here are a couple of things you can try:

• Power off, and then power on your printer to restart it. Wait for a while for it to be fully ready.
• Check your printer connection. Check your printer and make sure that it’s connected to your PC network.

If the steps didn't help, you may go through this list of suggestions to fix printer connection in Windows 10.

First, I would suggest installing the actual driver package from Brother. While the printer may work with the fairly generic drivers that come with Windows 10, I've always found that I get better results from the actual Brother drivers.

I have a rather old Brother printer so the exact steps may be a bit different from yours, but in my case when I install the drivers it will search the network for available printers and allow me to specify the printer that it finds. If it does not find a printer, it may ask you to initially setup the printer via a direct connection (USB), and then configure the printer for network use (WiFi).

In any case, the installation wizard should guide you through the steps.
