    Windows 10 Cannot open ANY Word docs - ERROR MESSAGE


    Suddenly yesterday I completely lost the ability to open Word documents. I get this error from all drives, including attempting to open from an external hard drive. I have tried every remedy possible that I have found and I am still unable to access anything unless I upload the docs into OneDrive, which does not retain critical formatting.

    Please advise as to how I may correct this error in order to access Word documents.

    microsoft word 2003

    I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

    Thanks for the suggestions. Yes I did check for updates and updated all that was availbale. Office/Word did not appear.

    There was no error message when I tried to open my docs (which showed as blanks at first) but word pad was the only program on offer when I tried to open my word docs but this didn't work either (just symbols appeared).

    I checked the article you suggested. It offered me Office AT $148.

    As a "getaround" I downloaded Libre Office from Linux and it opens my word docs just fine, but this does not solve my problem of course.

    Any other suggestions would be welome.
