Windows 10 can't clean install off a flash drive on Dell

Yesterday I upgraded from Windows 8,1 to Windows 10. I wanted to clean install so I booted from my USB drive (which has the Windows 10 image and worked before on my other PC) and it didn't work.
Something was corrupt with my registry on the C: drive so I formatted it. Now I can't boot obviously and I get odd error messages like bad_config_info or something like that. I can't even clean install on the damn drive, it gets stuck after copying files.

Any help? I really need my laptop ready over the weekend, because my current PC is garbage and also blue screens with Memory_Management. I'm not even bothering with that on a 6 yr old PC.

    ERROR CODE 0x80070570

Wait a sec, we must have done a Clean Install on my DELL Inspiron. We put that SSD into it and loaded Windows 10 Anniversary Edition off of a flash drive. Then we put installed of my programs onto that SSD and my data on the HDD. Isn't that proof that
we did your gold standard Clean Install?

Cannot create recovery drive in Windows 10

The only approach that always works is to do a clean install of Windows 10. Dell's OEM version is missing something. However, I have noticed on Dell's Support Assist you can now download installation media yourself.

I complained to Dell's support group several months ago that I couldn't create a recovery drive, and they sent me a flash drive with the Windows 10 installation media. Apparently, buy allowing their users to download the media themselves, this is their
    fix to the issue.

Take your pick, clean install, or Dell OEM installation media.

Have you tried deleting all the partitions on the hard drive and picking the resulting unallocated space to install to?

If you can create a Macrium Reflect Free rescue disk from a good computer, use that to boot your laptop from and image the data partition to an external USB stick or hard drive, that would work.

You can also try deleting all the partitions on the hard drive except for your data partition, and then install to the unallocated space.

    I'm gonna try that link.

The partition my OS was on is empty (formatted) and I'm pretty sure that's why I get 'press any key to boot from usb...'

Gonna try all of these, thanks. I'll report back.

As long as your BIOS is set to boot from USB first, you will get that message anytime a bootable USB is inserted, regardless of if you have an OS installed on your hard drive - and that is why it is there so it doesn't just boot into the USB if you accidentally left it in - also needed when doing an install from the USB so the computer can skip the USB when no key is pressed during the reboot process of the installation.

...Well... "When you see the error "0x80070570 can't access files" on install click --> Cancel ---> you will be returned to the "Install Now" startup screen and - WITHOUT REBOOTING - just re-start the install.

Second time round it went smooth as clockwork and installed fine."

Oddly enough it doesn't go back to the setup screen. Crap.
