Windows 10: Windows 10 can't read DVD-R media formatted with OSTA's UDF, trouble with CD-RW too

On windows 10 I can format a DVD*R disc fine with UDF v2.01 or UDF 1.50. I can write files on it and read them back again when reinserted. But as soon as I opened it and modified the disc in another implementation on an other operating system it doesn't read it anymore even though the Phillips UDF conformity checker gives it a clean bill of health. It shows up as if its an empty disc without even mentioning it can't mount it or that something is wrong.With non-Windows formatted CD-RW discs, the mileage varies. Some work just fine but some discs open but writing on it gives an Catastrophic erro

Old title: UDF File System Questions

My new Windows 10 computer Disc Drive will read all of my old DVD-R, DVD+R and CD-R, CD+R discs. When I try to burn a File to the same type of disc, I get a message that My Drive cannot read the discs. I must Format the DVD-R, DVD+R or CD-R, CD+R discs to

UDF 2.1 File system to burn files to this media.

Will I need to Format all my discs to the UDF File System when I burn any files to disc? My discs are a few years old. Are newer discs already formatted to the UDF File system?

Will the discs burned using the UDF File system be readable in other computers using different Windows Operating Systems?

My last Computers ran the Vista operating system or Windows XP. On those systems, I was able to burn discs without having to Format them. My Windows 10 computer reads all these old discs with no problem.

Any information on these changes will be much appreciated.

UDF CD properties shows 200+ MB data on disc but will not open any folder or file on disc.

I guess I need a reader of some type. Can you please suggest some basic simple alternatives to try ?

I noticed in your original post you said formatted DVD-R and assumed it was a typo. You don't format a DVD-R. You just burn it.
