Windows 10: Windows 10 - "Caps Lock is On" message will not go away

I am running Windows 10 professional 64 bit on a new Dell XPS-17 laptop. I use it with a Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt Docking Station that connects to the laptop by USB-C. The docking station has an HDMI port, which I have connected to an external monitor. I have the external monitor set as my primary display.


This is working quite well for me, but annoyingly often, the "Caps Lock is on" popup message is displayed on the external monitor and I cannot get it to go away. As far as I can tell, it only appears when Caps Lock is in fact On, but when I turn Caps Lock Off, the message doesn't go away.


I have searched this and a few other message boards, and it seems that other people have experienced this same problem. The recommended solutions I have come across have not worked for me.


If anyone here can suggest how I can correct this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd be happy even if there was a way that I could disable the "Caps Lock is On" message from ever appearing, as I do not find this feature to be particularly useful. I can tell whether caps lock is on by looking at the light on my caps lock key.

Disable Caps Lock on Windows 10?

The below does not disable CAPS LOCK; instead it converts CAPS LOCK into SHIFT LOCK.

• Right-click Start
• Choose Control Panel.
  
• Under Clock, Language and Region, choose
  Change input methods.
• On the left, choose
  Advanced Settings.
• Near the bottom, click on
  Change language bar hot keys (this is a blue link)
• On the Advanced Key Settings tab, select Press the Shift key
  radio button.
• Click OK, then Save

After this change:

• You press the CAPS LOCK key puts the keyboard in all-caps mode
• You press the SHIFT key to turn off CAPS LOCK and exit all-caps mode.
  • Note that pressing CAPS LOCK again
    will not turn off CAPS LOCK; only by pressing either SHIFT key will CAPS LOCK turn off.

This is similar behavior to how the SHIFT LOCK key works on typewriters.

 

Windows 10 Caps Lock light


Strangely enough, since updating to 9879, the caps lock light on my keyboard does not work.

I know it may seem small but it is really annoying not knowing when caps is on or not. My keyboard is backlit and the keys light up fine but the light on the capslock key does not.

I'm dualing booting with Windows 8.1 and if I switch back to 8.1, the caps lock button light works fine, so I know the light it self is not the problem.

Any suggestions?
