Windows 10 changed my webcam drivers and won't let me change back

I got a Logitech c920 webcam two years ago. Everything was fine. Then a while back, I started having issues with the camera. It would just suddenly go off during a Zoom meeting, or worse, it would switch to my laptop computer and show my crotch instead of my face.

When I open the webcam software, I get the message that I am using generic Windows UVC drivers and that I should install Logitech drivers (which is what I had originally).

When I try to change the drivers (not easy, since the Logitech drivers are basically hidden), Windows 10 tells me that I have the best drivers and it flat out refuses to allow me to change them.

Logitech tech support has not helped. I've tried to get them to send me driver software, but to no avail.

When you first plug the webcam into the laptop's USB port, the drivers install. But unplugging and plugging in doesn't help.

I have done some things that seem to work (and I apologize but now I don't even remember what they are). Then it tells me to restart the computer and I do. But I still get the same message from the webcam software. At the same time, I haven't experienced the webcam problem in a couple of weeks, so I'm wondering if I did something right. It's all very confusing.

Can anyone help me update these drivers to the right ones? Please keep in mind that I'm not a techie so if you use a lot of tech language, I might not understand it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

    Janet

    :)

  2. Windows 10 webcam problem

The drivers for the Imaging devices, which include the webcam, are not displayed in the Device Manager. To resolve this problem, use the following steps:

    Restart your computer.

If the problem persists, continue using these steps.

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

If there is no Imaging devices category listed, select Action, then Scan for hardware changes.

Figure : Scan for hardware changes

    Image: Scan for hardware changes

If Device Manager does not recognize the webcam after the scan, use Microsoft System Restore to go back to a time when the webcam was working properly.

If problems persist, the webcam might have become unplugged internally, and the computer might require service to correct the issue.

    or

In Windows, search for and open Recovery Manager.

Select Reinstall drivers and/or applications, and then click Next when prompted.

Figure : Reinstall drivers and/or applications

Select the appropriate Software program (such as Cyberlink YouCam or MediaSmart Webcam), and select Install.

Figure : List of drivers to reinstall

Image: List of drivers to reinstall

If prompted, click Next to first uninstall the selected program.

The program uninstalls, and then reinstalls.

Windows 8.1 update changed the language, can't change back

Maybe, these will help... it seems it is a common enough problem.

Language packs are no longer available after you upgrade to Windows 8.1

And, sort of the same here --> Add a language or keyboard

Quote from above MS web page:

Spoiler Download and install language packs
You'll need to download the language pack if you want to make a language your Windows display language (that's the language you see most often in Windows and apps).
    • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
    • Tap or click Time and language, and then tap or click Region and language.
    • Tap or click a language that says Language pack available underneath, and then tap or click Options.
    • Tap or click Download. The download process might take a while, depending on your PC and the size of the language pack.
If you want to make this your display language, see the next section "Change your Windows display language".
    Change your Windows display language
To change your Windows display language (that's the language you see most often in Windows and apps), first add a language, download and install the language pack, and then follow these steps.
    • Tap or click the language that you want to set as your display language.
    • Tap or click Set as primary to move the language to the top of the list. If the language can become your Windows display language, you'll see Will be display language after next sign-in appear under the language.
    • Sign out and then sign back in to finish.
And here is some more info --> Add Language Packs to Windows

Windows 10 changed my webcam drivers and won't let me change back

Volume Mute Light won´t change color

When you viewed the HP web site for software and drivers were you able to change the operating system from 10 to 7 or 8.1? If it is not listed there then it may not be the solution to the audio problem.

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65501-66000/sp65631.html
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65501-66000/sp65631.cva

There are probook models listed for this driver. The computer model that you are using is not on the list.

Open msconfig and see whether your computer is booting in normal startup or selective startup.
