  1. Windows 10 Clean Install - "Could not reinitialize the deployment engine". SSD failure?

Hello all, for the past couple of days I have been trying to revive my dead PC that I bought pre-built about a year ago and am by no means an expert so I am trying to learn all this as I go along.

    -PC Specs-

OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit

    Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core

    Motherboard: A320M-HDV

    SSD: HP EX900 M.2 500GB

    GPU: GEFORCE GTX 1660

    RAM: 8GB DDR4

Why I'm trying to clean install: Whenever I turn on the PC the screen is black and only the date and time show in the corner. When attempting to log into windows the bubble just spins for about 10 minutes and eventually goes back to the first screen with the date and time.

I have tried all of the following both in safe mode and then using a recovery USB: startup repair, system restore, uninstalling updates, and even entering the command prompt. All of these result in an error "There was a problem, Restart your PC" with code 80070013. I have also carefully opened up the PC and tried resetting the CMOS battery and "reseating" the GPU, SSD, and RAM inside the PC. I only opened it up and looked at the hardware because safe mode and the recovery USB were doing nothing. The hardware appeared undamaged to me.

After trying the above I decided to attempt a clean install of windows. I created installation media on USB, entered UEFI, set the USB in the boot order and was able to get the installation wizard started. In the wizard after deleting all the partitions, I selected the new unallocated space, clicked new, clicked apply, and arrived at the error "could not reinitialise the deployment engine. To install Windows, restart the installation". I tried multiple times to install.

I did discover that command prompt was working with the installation media USB. Using diskpart I discovered that although I had deleted the partition in the installation wizard, that my SSD still had 400GB+ of data on it what it had before this whole mess. I used diskpart clean, which said it was successful, but when I used list disk again it still showed it had 400GB+ of data on it again.

So at this point I learn that my SSD is write protected somehow and I have attempted the following to remove that status:

diskpart clean - says successful but it does not work, still data on it. Tried typing clean multiple times in a row

chkdsk /f - "windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected"

diskpart attributes disk clear readonly - "DiskPart failed to clear disk attributes"

regedit - under storagedevicepolicies created new d word "writeprotect" and changed the value to 0. Didn't work after a restart and when I went back into regedit, the new d word i created wasn't there.

So this is where I am at right now. I believe this SSD is dead or very close to it. I would really appreciate any insights or advice on this because I am not sure what else to do. As I said, I am by no means an expert. I'm just a guy who googles how to do stuff. I just hope I didn't somehow cause more damage attempting to fix this.

One final question. If I buy a brand new SSD and slap it in there, would I need to purchase a new windows key to use the PC again? Or would I just leave the installation media USB in there with the new SSD and not have to worry about getting a new key?

Thanks again whoever takes the time to read all this

    :)

  2. Windows 8.1 to 10 Clean Install error "Windows is unable to reinitialize the deployment engine"

I have been trying to do a clean install of Windows 10 and have been following guides closely. I get the error "Windows is unable to reinitialize the deployment engine" after selecting a place to install Windows. I believe it's an error with my partitions
but I was unsure which ones to delete. I have only one drive and one of the partitions is my OS (main partition). Should I delete all others? Thanks for the help.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern. I will do my best to fix the issue.

Based on your information, since you are performing clean installation all the data’s and file will be wipe out form the system. I suggest you to take a backup of all your data’s/files and try performing clean installation by deleting the drive.

    • Boot from the Windows 10 ISO.

    • Click on Install Now.

    • Accept License Agreement.

    • When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced).

    • Click Drive Options.

    • Select the drive/s click Delete.

    • Click on New.

    • Click on Apply.

    • Click OK.

Windows 10 Clean Install - "Could not reinitialize the deployment engine". SSD failure?

Windows setup could not reinitialize the deployment engine. To install Windows restart the installation.

OK I finally succumbed to the harassment of Windows 10 upgrade on my Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop. My objective was to do a clean install. I never had that choice when I first installed W10 on this machine. I thought I should get that option. But, Microsoft
being Microsoft never makes anything easy. So, I checked the web to see what it takes to do a clean install.

Download the media creation tool. It doesn't say whether or not there are different tools for W8.1 or W10, so I downloaded mediacreationtool.exe. I ran it, and eventually, it created an iso file. I used the DVD tool to create a bootable DVD disk and the
machine booted up to the DVD.

    So far, so good.

Next, it asked if I wanted to do an install. Next.

    Things start to go awry.

Then it asked for a product key. My understanding was that if I had a legitimate copy of Windows this would not happen.

But, I entered the key. Next.

Do you want to do an upgrade and keep all the files you have?

Do you want to do a clean install? I want to do a clean install. Next.

    Accept License Terms. Yes. Next.

Where do you want to install Windows. On the OS partition. Next.

The endless cycle begins. Stuck on a Microsoft screwup.

I get this message: Windows setup could not reinitialize the deployment engine. To install Windows restart the installation.OK, fine. I restarted the installation several times and got here again and again.

Now what can I do, if anything?
