Windows 10 computer sound does not work until slider reaches about 30%

My computer sound does not activate until volume slider hits about 30 on the slider. At 30ish the volume starts to work and is as loud as the slider indicates. Sound can be raised or lowered and still works. But if the computer sits for an unspecified period of time the volume must be raised before the sound comes back again.

    The output device is Realtek.

I do have a Bose external speaker and i am not sure if that could be the problem.

    :)

speaker ( or sound ) slider switch disappeared

    Hi Hank,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    • Are you able to use Volume slider on the taskbar?

    • Do you get any error message?

    • Are you able to see sound icon on the taskbar?
I suggest you to hoover your mouse on the right side of the taskbar and click on the sound icon and try to use volume slider and check if it that works.

Follow the steps below and check.

    • Discover the empty slot on the
      Taskbar
      and Right click.

    • Click on Properties.

    • Under Taskbar tab and Notification area
      click on Custom.

    • Tap on Select which icons appears on the taskbar.

    • Turn on Volume option.
Hope this helps. If any other issues get back to us. We are glad to help you.

    Thanks

    sound slider

    Hello Fred,

The volume sound slider uses the Default Beep sound in Windows 10. If you want to disable this sound, you will no longer get any other sound notifications for events that uses the Default Beep sound.

To disable this sound, please follow the steps below:

    1. Press the Start button > type Sound, then press
      Enter.
    2. On the Sounds tab, under Program Events, select the
Default Beep in the list, set it to None using the drop-down box. Please see the screenshot below:

    Hdmi sound not working

    Hi Peter,

One possible reason why the HDMI sound does not work is due to the conflicts with the playback settings. For us to help you make the HDMI sound to work, we suggest that you answer the following questions for further research:

    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer?
    • What is the current build and version of your Windows 10?
    • Have you tried to download and install the most updated sound and display driver of your computer?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you perform the steps on this
    article
as our initial troubleshooting and see if there will be any changes on the HDMI sound.

We'll be waiting for your response.
