Windows 10: Windows 10 crashing when connecting Xbox One Controller

I am trying to connect my Xbox One controller to my PC, however as soon as I connect the controller within 2 seconds the computer crashes. There is no onscreen error or BSOD, everything just freezes up on the screen, keyboard mice doesn't work etc and pressing my desktop power button switches it PC off immediately i.e. normally you'd have to push and hold.


This same issue occurs whether I connect through either means of USB cable or through the Xbox Wireless Adapter. The Xbox Wireless Adapter has successfully paired my Turtlebeach headset so I know that does work.


My inkling is that as soon as the controller connects, it tries to install the driver and it is this install/download that crashes the PC as I reguarly have problems with Windows Updates and have to do the whole net stop bits/wuauserv etc...


My Xbox One controller is the official Xbox One Day One 2013 Wireless controller.


My PC is currently on 1909 18363.720.


I recently had problems with KB4541335 but have subsequently uninstalled that. The above crashing occured both with and without that KB installed.

Initially, we need to pair the device to show up in the list while connected through Bluetooth. Check with the below mentioned steps and see if it works.

Xbox Controller is not connecting to Wireless Adapter

I appreciate your time and patience to work on this issue. To have a better clarity on the issue please reply to the following questions:

• Are you using an Xbox one controller?
  

If you are using an Xbox one controller, I suggest you to refer the steps in the article

How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC and see if that helps in resolving the issue.



I would also suggest you to uninstall all the hidden devices under USB hive and check if you are able to connect the wireless adapter. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the hidden drivers:

1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
   
2. Select Device manager.
   
3. Click View tab.
   
4. Select Show hidden devices.
   
5. Expand Universal Serial Bus and remove all the greyed out devices. To remove the greyed out devices, right click on the device and select
   uninstall.
   
6. Restart your computer.
