It looks like I'm getting closer, I've been working on my laptop all day and at 9:30pm EDT (1:30am UTC) I opened the lid and saw this:





Guess I'll review my privacy settings, Shawn or anyone else seen this before a major update? I clicked on remind me later, but checking updates I found that KB4013214 was already installed today.

Yup. Got that before my system updated to CU.
I ran it, no biggie.

 

It's KB4013214 that installed and generated this review. This review before getting the Creators Update is a new thing, it appears to be Microsoft's response to past criticism that they were not open about the data they collect.

 

Thanks guys for the heads-up, I should have just gone forward and did the review, my wife had it on her machine a couple of days ago and Creators updated last night. It took awhile before it was all finished and so far everything's okay and no problems with the wi-fi, the only thing she didn't like was all the previewing Creators wanted to go through before it would let her get back to business. I told her next time look for a remind me later button.

 

Mine installed about 2 weeks ago, and all went well... seems to be running OK without issues... apart from the location service running all the time when you open action centre rather than on and off...

 

Just submitted feedback with a few details to my system letting them know ALL previous updates have gone smooth and I'm ready *Wink

Still not been offered to our main machine. Our weak living room box got it several weeks ago but the skylake machine is still holding out on us. It's a pretty slow roll out, the next major update will be on the horizon soon yet they are still drip feeding this one.

 

Make image backup, then manually install it by downloading iso, double clicking on it and running setup.exe.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that. I certainly won't manually update it then. I was content to wait it out for windows update but was just getting frustrated it's been so long!

i know I could take an image (which I have done) to restore but I just don't have a load of time to spend getting a machine back on its feet should things go wrong. So it's a risk / headache I'll try to avoid

I had the privacy note come back to me this morning, all were off except for trying to enhance my experience through 10's interpretation of my basic telemetry, I respectfully switched it to off. The wife saw her update about three days later.

We have to check my wife's new laptop, she just had creators installed last week and she tells me she has some flickering. *Sad When she gets back we're going to do the Task Manager test to see if it's an app or a driver. I'm hoping its an app, the intel's 510 drivers have a 11/11/2016 date. Their too young to die....
