    Hi,

    I am using Windows 10 (Ver 1803), I frequently get messages from Windows Defender telling me that everything is OK after an automatic scan and I can run normal scans manually.

    I recently tried using an online scan with Windows Defender but nothing happened, I also tried running a custom scan but this only allowed me to select folders but not files.

    After googling this problem I have run “sfc /scannow which did show a problem that could not be repaired, I then ran the appropriate DISM commands using an up to date Windows (1803) iso as a source and this completed perfectly. I then ran sfc /scannow again, and this completed without errors, however none of these operations enabled the online and custom scans in defender.


    Does anyone have any ideas what the cause of this might be?

    I could just wait for the Autum update (Whenever that might be) but that is no guarantee to correct this problem.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
