Windows 10: Windows 10 deleted the partition of hard disk connected via usb and makes it unallocated

The SATA Hard disk on my laptop had Windows 11 installed on it. But recently the operating system failed to boot. Before I could install the operating system again, I had to back up all my data. In order to do this, I connected the hard disk via a usb connector to a laptop with windows 10 installed on it. I had not switched off its default Anti Virus Protection.!The moment it was connected, it failed to show up contents of that partition in windows explorer or ms dos and later when I checked in DISK Management Tool, this entire partition was deleted and had become unallocated. Step 1: Connect the external drive and make sure it is powered on.

Step 2: press Windows key + X then click Disk Management

Step 3: You will see the external drive listed in Disk Managment.

Right click each partition, starting from the extreme right, then click Delete.

You should only see one unallocated drive

After all are deleted, right click it then click Format

This will start a wizard

Choose NTFS for the file system then label it then click Next to begin the format.

Thanks for responding. I deleted both partitions per your suggestion following step 3. Subsequent right click on unallocated section brings up only "new simple volume" choice. Right click on Disk 1 section brings up two choices: convert to Dynamic disk
or convert to GPT disk. help?

 

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
