Windows 10: Windows 10 demands admin password to delete folder from desktop, then still refuses when...

Can anyone explain this odd behaviour and how to avoid it, please?


I copied some jpg and video files from my phone to my Windows 10 desktop today.


a On trying to delete, Windows demanding an admin password - why? These are my normal user's files. Windows never used to demand admin pw to delete normal files within a no-dmain user account.





b So I enter my admin password, then I get this:





What's going on now? Now it is telling me I need my own persmision, too. gwarn1 is the normal user account I am using, not admin. ??


I click "Try again" repeatedly, and the files are slowly deleted. This flashes up briefly;





c The files within the folder are finally deleted after repeated clicks but the folder itself refuses, even now. What is happening, please?

You can reset the Admin Password using Windows XP repair; See Here for step by step.

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.

 

Trouble deleting a folder

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.
