Windows 10: Windows 10 Desktop hangs on Windows boot logo UNLESS a keyboard is connected.

I have a desktop computer that I just wiped and put Windows 10 on it. Its using UEFI. I'm trying to use this as a headless computer with all control happening via remote desktop. In general it mostly works my motherboard won't boot without a video card but I have a strange situation where if no keyboard is connected it posts and shows the Windows boot logo, but then it never gets past this point. No spinning dots or anything. I've tried hard restarting a few times like suggested to get the recovery boot, but not even that will work. If I connect a USB keyboard it boots perfectly fine.

At post it doesn't hang and mention the lack of keyboard and there are no options in the UEFI/Bios settings either for requiring or not requiring a keyboard.


The obvious suggestion would be to just leave a keyboard connected, but I'm trying to make this computer as energy efficient as possible since its runs 24/7 and a keyboard makes it suck 10 more watts than without. Right now I just connect a keyboard when I need to reboot, but this is kind of annoying to deal with. Also this sucks if there's a power failure because then the computer is down until I can get to it and reboot it with a keyboard attached.


I tried to see if having a mouse instead of a keyboard attached would work, but it hung with that too... it seems to always be a keyboard it needs.


Any ideas?


I tried turning off fast boot in the energy settings but that didn't help and besides this will happen from a restart as well. FWIW its a USB keyboard.

Just done a fresh install of windows 10. Still got the same problem.
Turn pc on from cold or a restart. Hangs on the win boot logo for a minute or so then boots in to the desktop
cant work it out why its so slow to boot up? any ideas*Mad

Roll back to older drivers man.

To add to what @Drone said, W10 still does not seem to like power-saving features in BIOS, and doesn't seem to like the "fast start" option in Windows, which ironically makes it faster without that option.
