Windows 10 Desktop Has Reconfigured Itself?

    Greetings,

It seems as if my Windows 10 desktop and laptop in general, has radically changed since I last used it in a reconfigure which I did not do myself at least not knowingly!

Now on previous blank desktop with no pinned tiles or anything else, apart from shortcuts, in the left hand side there is now a new side bar with the following tabs top to bottom which were not there before!

    Start

    Pinned Tiles

    All Apps

And at the bottom above the normal windows start button

    User name

Power button which previously only popped up from the normal windows start button

I also cannot restore down any windows anywhere else and the desktop wallpaper pic has turned a drab grey colour. Again other windows, images, etc are fine in colour. One last thing, all my shortcuts have vanished! Including recycle bin, everything.

I'm a bit of a nob when it comes to pc's, so does anyone have any idea what's happened here?

    Appreciate any comments. Thanks.

    Laptop Lenovo Thinkpad440, 64bit Windows 10 Pro

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

    • Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
    • Click on Users, select your User name
