    Windows 10 Desktop PC Won't Wake-Up If Asleep Too Long


    If I allow my W10 PC to remain asleep more than about 2 hours, pressing a keyboard key will no longer wake it back up like it will after it sleeps for a shorter time. None of the many other tricks I've tried will wake it back up.


    What I have to do is turn OFF the power strip, wait a short time, turn the power strip back ON, and then press the Start switch on my CPU case. Only then does Windows 10 start back up, just as if I had performed a perfectly normal Shutdown/Restart cycle.


    Is anyone familiar with this problem? How can it be diagnosed? Is there a fix for it?

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
