Windows 10: Windows 10 Device Encryption - Something went wrong. Try again later.

When attempting to turn on Device Encryption through Settings > Update and Security on a Windows 10 device that is running version 2004 I am getting a prompt "Something went wrong. Try again later.". After several days and many restarts this issue is still occurring and failing to turn on Device Encryption. The devices TPM is enabled and in System Information the Device Encryption Support meets requirements. Is this a known issue with some device running the latest version of Windows 10 2004?

Windows 10 mobile device encryption

You will be unable to change the activation waiting time on the Windows 10 Mobile once you enabled the device encryption. We suggest that you report your concern on the Feedback Hub to let our relevant team know about this. You can follow the steps below
on how to send a feedback:

• Go to All Apps, search for the Feedback
  Hub app.
• Open the menu icon at the top left side.
• Select Feedback, then at the top right side, tap the
  add button (+).
• Select Problem or Suggestion and fill up the box with the details needed.
• Select the right category and then submit it.

Device Encryption - Turn On or Off for Windows 10 Mobile Phone

thanks for the tip. yes, the phone did ask if I wanted to set a pin. I tried my tests with the pin set and without a pin set. no difference.

it took a while, but I finally got this new update installed.

alas, same pathology:

• with a local Device Encryption toggled On, no dialog, no change in Storage status
• with an activesync policy from Google Sync (Google for Work), the Requires Encryption policy is ignored by the device, so the toggle remains Off, yet the device seems to be reporting back to the server that encryption is activated because the data is syncing with the servers
• with a native Office Enterprise that has a Requires Encryption policy, the settings toggle is moved to On and greyed out so the user cannot disable, the data is syncing immediately, yet the Storage settings do not indicate that the device is encrypted.

last thing. with windows 8.1r2, the Office Enterprise did seem to set the encryption correctly.
